Winter Concert 2016

Welcome to my music class website. My name is Alla Shumova. I teach piano, music theory and singing. Whether you are looking for music lessons for your children or for yourself you are in the right place.

My class is quite extensive but I never stop looking for new students, genuinely willing to commit their time to music. My aim is to bring the highest standards to teaching music. It does not matter for me how much natural talent the student has but how much efforts he/she puts into everyday practise. The ability to respect the teacher, pay attention to details, overcome the obstacle, accept criticism, listen and absorb information is the way to success. The process of learning should be full of jokes and laughter in an easy going atmosphere but strictly based on fundamental principal of developing skill.

When my students choose to take exams they achieve very good results, with the majority receiving grade distinction. In addition, students have competed in Harrogate, Roswell and Bingley festivals, and won trophies. I have succesfully coached a student to grade 6 piano and grade 5 theory in 3 years, and the student received distinctions in all of these. Another former student was admitted to the London Musical Academy.

My specialist subjects are piano, music theory and singing. I admit students to the piano class from 4 years old, and singing class from 7 years old. I only teach on a one-to-one basis. I also have older students who have at least grade 5 in any instrument, or have long-term experience in performing music in amateur groups . Whilst young students have more structured lessons with lots of compulsory activities such as scales, stylistically different pieces, plenty of sight-reading/sight-singing, adult students have more freedom in choosing methods and styles. Focus can be anything including; sight reading or sight-singing, composition, harmony, theory, improvisation, with any possible repertoire - musicals, jazz, 20th century dances, opera, contemporary classical, film and cartoon music. Music theory is strongly recommended and is included either with piano or singing lessons.

I organise 3 concerts a year where every student has the opportunity to share their progress, with an audience of relatives and friends. I believe that concerts are immensely important part of the teaching process as they help to motivate, to get rid of stage fright, and to prepare for the exam.

My classroom is equipped with a grand piano and is located in Moortown, Leeds.

The concert on 19 June 2016 raised £335 (£725 in total from the last two concerts). As Care.com, a charity announced for this concert, did not communicate through their website and their FB page all the donations went to Ataxia.com.

A big thank you to all the parents, pupils and friends who took part in this event.

Uma Schuth was awarded 2 trophies and several medals at Wharfedale Festival of Performing Arts in October 2016.

She also took the first place at the GSAL Instrumental and Singing competition in Gr.6 Class. She played W.A.Mozart Sonata C Major K.545 (Allegro).

Well Done!

Our winter Concert was sponsored by Mr and Mrs Lee. We managed to raise £390 for Ataxia UK charity all together!
